A minor edit is an edit made on Wikipedia that only makes small, superficial changes to an article. Removing a spelling error would be a small edit. Re-writing a whole section in an article would not be. Minor edits are changes that people are unlikely to contest: a correction of a spelling error for example. If you're ever in doubt about whether or not something is a minor edit, it most likely is not.

You can mark something as a minor edit by checking the box that says "This is a minor edit". In general when you save your edits, always try to leave an edit summary that describes what you've done to the article.

  • If you're using VisualEditor, mark a minor edit in the content box that appears when you press the "save changes" button.
  • If you're editing in source mode, this option will be visible at the bottom of the page.
