I've seen people use the tag [citation needed], but how would I add it to an article?

It's a good idea to know how to use this tag, as it's very likely that you will run into unsourced claims while going through Wikipedia. Tagging them makes it more likely that these claims will be sourced. There are two ways to add this tag to Wikipedia.

  1. Open the page in VisualEditor and click on the Insert tab. Once there, click on "Template". This will open the Template box.

  1. In the Template box write 'citation needed'. As you type, you'll see a variety of templates pop up, but for your purposes what you'll need is 'citation needed'.

  1. Select the tag and press "add template". This will bring up the following information - just press "insert". If you're curious, what this information add is the month and year of to the tag. This way people will know exactly how long the claim has gone uncited. After you've pressed insert you'll see the traditional [citation needed] tag.

If you're editing in source mode, all you need to do is add {{citationneeded|date= (insert the month and year here)}} to the end of the claim.
