How do I attribute a translation of a different language Wikipedia entry?

asked 2017-06-05 13:55:33 -0500

I want to translate an article from the Spanish language Wikipedia into English for the English language Wikipedia. (Or any combination thereof.)

How can I make sure to give proper credit/attribution to the source material?

There are a lot of articles on notable topics that need to be translated into English or another language and put on that respective language's Wikipedia site. It's not an easy task, but certainly a necessary one!

Making sure that you give credit to the original version of the article is important and is luckily also easy to do. All you need to do is make a note in the edit summary box when you are editing in either source or Visual Editor mode, as seen below:

However before you begin translating it is very important that you review WikiEd's training program on article translation to make sure that you are aware of the best practices for article translation.
