I figured out the answer - I was sharing the wrong link for the course.

If you just copy/paste from the URL bar, the link lacks the suffix with the proper enrollment code.

For example: https://dashboard.wikiedu.org/courses/CaliforniaMaritimeAcademy/InformationFluencyintheDigitalWorld-2%28Spring_2016%29/overview

vs. https://dashboard.wikiedu.org/courses/CaliforniaMaritimeAcademy/InformationFluencyintheDigitalWorld-2(Spring_2016)?enroll=########

(I've removed the actual enrollment code so nobody gets accidentally added to my class if they click that link).

I figured out Your course page has a distinct enrollment link with the answer - I was sharing passcode built into it. You can find this link by clicking on the wrong enrollment button under the students tab of your course page. When your course is approved, you will receive an automatic email with this link that you should distribute to your students. IF your student is being asked for the course.passcode, they are not using the course spescific enrollment link.
