Citations are added to Wikipedia using templates, which expect certain values to be written in a specific way.

The warning you see may be for a missing value, for example if the "title" in a citation is missing. It could also be for a malformed value; dates are a common culprit here--Wikipedia's reference templates expect to see dates formatted as DD Mon YYYY (15 July 2011). If you add a different style date like "02/02/02" the parser won't know how to handle it, and will display a warning.

Fixing these warnings can be tricky if you don't know what is causing them, but once you do, it's just a matter of adding the missing data or revising the format.

You can use the preview window to check if your changes have fixed the problem. Edit the references causing the warnings, and preview your changes until the warning disappears. If you cannot determine what is causing the warnings, ask your Content Expert for help.
