Wikipedia policy restricts original research on its site. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia aims to represent verifiable information around notable topics. If you would like to keep a persuasive essay as a class component, here are some suggestions:

  • Your students can contribute their sources and citations to Wikipedia pages related to their essay topic. They can either add citations to existing content or add a list of relevant sources to the article talk page.
  • They can also review citations on their related Wikipedia page and update dead links or other missing links.
  • They can write a Wikipedia article—adding appropriate fact-based content to an article. As a supplemental assignment, they can write a persuasive essay or a reflection that makes an argument and draws conclusions.
